Whenever Canberra Astronomical Society (CAS) and Australian National University’s Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) co-host one of their regular public stargazing nights on Mount Stromlo, hundreds of people of all ages and diverse backgrounds queue for hours to get up close and personal with their favourite stars, moons and planets. These events are legendary, and bookings are essential.

CAS also runs a public outreach program at Mount Stromlo Observatory using telescopes housed in domes erected on the site of the old workshop complex which was destroyed in firestorm in 2003. These domes were built with funds donated by supporters after the bushfires, and are next door to similar domes owned by the MSATT Astronomical Teaching Facility.

CAS meets monthly in the RSAA Common Room at Mount Stromlo Observatory. New members are welcome.
